Hannah Senesh Barnes is the typical struggling student in college. She works a lot and still lives with her mother as she tries to figure out what she wants to do with life.

She's not complaining, though. She's got a great boyfriend, she loves her younger sister and brother to death, and her mom is pretty cool. She is very happy where she is, though scared of the oncoming life of adulthood.

Rebecca West Barnes is the middle child, an accident from the end of her mother's first marriage, attempting to go through the last two years of her high school career with a strong finish so she can graduate and take on life headfirst.

She feels stuck, even though she knows she's well off. She loves her family, but at the same time, she wants to escape from her almost too normal life. She wants to travel and see the world, and she wants to make a difference.

James Monroe Barnes is happy going to high school with his older sister, who was also his best friend. Rebecca always encouraged any interests he showed when he was little, and Hannah, though sometimes confused at them, supported him in all that he did. He couldn't have gotten to the point he was without them.

Yet, James also feels like they don't notice him anymore. In his mind, his sisters are getting ready to leave him behind, and he doesn't think he's ready for that.

Through all the trials and tribulations of the Barnes siblings, they all have another thing in common. Each and every one of them struggles with their legacy.
