Sixteen-year-old Rose Radcliffe has it all: A nice house; decent spending money; parents who love her enough to buy her anything; an older brother, Luke, who would do anything to protect her; a best friend, Elizabeth, that she can tell anything to; and straight-A's. However, Rose is lacking in several departments: She thinks nothing of her appearance; she is constantly tormented by a trio of girls who will stop at nothing to bring her down; her parents devote more time to their medical practice than to her; her brother joined a fraternity and moved out of the house; her best friend is in love with her older brother and now suddenly has no time for her since they started dating; and her best friends' older brother, David, seems to be exploring the advances of a cheerleader, Amber Seymour, despite saying he's not interested. Not wanting to get all pathetic over a boy, Rose wonders how she should attempt to move on from all that, and wishes that things could be less complicated. However, things go awry when her wish attempts to come true, and Rose quickly backs out of it. However, as time goes on, over a cigarette, Rose then wishes that she could meet her parents before they became workaholics. When she wishes this time, however, her and David are having a fight about her smoking habit, thus propelling them both into 1982, her parents' senior year of high school. Things are not as they seem, for Rose soon discovers she is a dead ringer for her father's cousin (a woman she has never met), and that her father is dating the mother of Amber Seymour, a girl named Roxy, who has as much disdain for her first cousin once removed as Amber has for Rose. Will Rose be able to get her parents together to ensure that she is born? Will Rose and David admit their feelings for one another? Will Rose's first cousin once removed catch on? Find out as Rose's saga begins...
