Forced by war to abandon his ambitions of becoming a priest, Detlef's search for other ways to serve his god lead him to a hobbit who has been living in a cave listening to voices which tell her to seek out something called 'The Silken Key'. Joined by an alchemist with an embarrassing chemistry problem, a singing gnomish sailor and soldier of fortune from the east, Detlef quickly learns that they are not the only ones looking for this artifact. Every clue solved and every battle won leaves them with more questions about what the Key is and what it does. In the end, will all their efforts play straight into the hands of their enemy? Excitement, mystery and comedy are more tightly packed into this story than a handful of pretty pebbles in a curious goblin's mouth.
