Sorez is a young blacksmith coming into his own, in the heat of a dire conflict between the nations of Simerta and Hilithany, as he decides whether to stay and defend the victimized Simertans, or leave and let the two nations destroy one another, as his homeland of Hilithany once attempted to destroy him. Haunted by a difficult past, steeped in rumors of devils and the wrath of warlords, Sorez has managed to cloak himself in a new identity where he is beloved by many, though few remember what happened before, and even fewer know why. Now as hatred begets war, spawning from a lust for absolute power stretching across national borders, Sorez must discover if what he holds within is the remedy to finally quell Hilithany's greed, or if their fury requires something far worse than he could ever hope to be. But with darker powers looming on the horizon, drawn in by Hilithany's enflamed will to dominate, it might only be a matter of time before more violent measures are needed.
