The West Indian island of Saint Lucia is far less known than many other Caribbean countries, such as Aruba, Barbados or Trinidad and Tobago. And probably that's partly why it's been able to maintain a more original character, which feels quite genuine and unexploited. Saint Lucia is about 22.5 kilometers wide and 43.5 kilometers long and has a mountainous, dramatic and forest-covered landscape, where you make your way on small, winding roads. On the island's west coast lies one of its most famous landmarks, the two mountain peaks gros piton and petit piton, where especially the higher of the two, Gros piton, is a popular destination for hikers and climbers, searching for a tough, but realistic, challenge.
