Kat K is a talented but troubled musician, dancer, songwriter, leader of her trio band The Lady Killers and a bartender working part-time at First Avenue, a nightclub in Minneapolis. Living in a loft apartment with her alcoholic-drug addict mother Agnes, Kat has dreams of becoming the next famous artist in the world. Her talents catch the eyes of Prince, a musician and leader of his band The Revolution with a troubled past which he desperately wants to free from; and Morris E. Day, a cool and slick leader of his band The Time, has a reputation for being a playboy. The problem is they are rivals and both fall in love with Kat. For them to succeed, they create new music and songs that will lead them to their dreams coming true. But success could lead to Kat and Prince struggling to navigate their careers and their relationship.
