I clenched my lip in frustration. How could this happen? The elevator came to an abrupt halt, and I was stuck with a bunch of strangers.
"Daddy, she has such pretty hair," a little voice piped up, and I pretended not to notice that it was directed at me. Of course, it was about me; there was no one else here but us, and this situation was becoming increasingly aggravating.
"Yes, sweetheart, she does," her father responded in a deep, seductive tone that sent shivers down my spine. But I didn't care about his voice; I just wanted out of this predicament.
"Say 'thank you,'" one of the twins chimed in, snapping me out of my thoughts. They all bore a striking resemblance to their handsome father. I blushed with embarrassment, nervously bit my lip, and discreetly clenched my fist, trying to keep my anger in check
"Yeah, say thank you. Daddy says we should always be grateful when someone compliments us," the other identical twin chimed in supportively.
I swallowed hard, rolled my eyes, forced a fake smile, and turned toward the little girl nestled in her dad's strong arms. "Thank you," I muttered and then looked at the twins with the same strained smile. "Satisfied?"
