Two college friends from Berkeley named David and Nathan meet up with Nathan's cousin Raymond in Michigan for duck hunting. Then they got onto a portal towards the distant future, where the world is extremely warm, flooded with only a few islands, and a swarm of giant hybrid animals covers the planet. The surviving humans can only live underwater, and only the hybrid humans live on the ocean's surface with man-made islands. The rest of the journey is the story of how the world came to be, foretold by an elite soldier from the Underwater City to the Duck Hunters.
