Killer In The Mirror

A forensic scientist is tasked with uncovering the identity of a sereal killer who has gained a reputation for going after "bad guys". Despite her expertise she seems to not be making any progress so her colleagues start to grow weary.

Why would Meave possibly want to hide the killer's identity? Did she find something truly mortifying or is she afraid of becoming up next in the line of possible victims?
