Jane, a girl living in a patriarchal village, must step up to provide for her family. With a deep love for her mother, fear and respect for her grandmother, and adoration for her little brother, Jane sets out to fish for food at the river every day. It's there that she meets Druig, a boy from the other side of the river. Despite the distance, they form a deep connection and fall in love. But, as Jane begins to mix herbs and plants in a way that the village views as witchcraft, a time where witches are burned at the stake. Jane must fight against the prejudices and superstitions of her community to save herself and her loved ones. Will Druig be enough to save her from the flames or will their love be doomed?
