Maeve Walsh has never known love or the touch of another human being. Instead, she has chosen to serve as a maid in the household of the absent Duke of Carlyle, Alexander Ravenwood. Her days are consumed by cleaning, ensuring the happiness of the Duke's family, and, most importantly, obeying the strict societal rules of Victorian England. To do anything else is to risk being cast out into the streets to fend for herself in London's notorious West End slums. However, when the Duke of Carlyle is forced to return to Ravenwood and assume the responsibilities of his Dukedom, Maeve's fragile world is suddenly turned upside down. She finds herself drawn to the mysterious, brooding Duke, and no matter how hard he tries, he can't seem to stay away from her, no matter how dangerous it is for both of them, and no matter how messed up he is on the inside. Now, Maeve must choose between the cravings of her heart and her body, and the life that she has always known for a chance to experience what it feels like to be consumed by someone like Alexander: body, mind, and soul.
