Clarity Jansky is focused, and has spent 17 years doing two things: 1. Training to be the best National Figure Skater in history 2. Avoiding her brothers best friend, Jacin, at all costs Those goals collide when Clarity's figure skating partner drops out of the competition three months before the Sectionals Qualifier. Jacin is suddenly looking a lot more appealing. Sure, he got kicked out of hockey & lost his scholarship for fighting a referee. Yeah, he has a jealous girlfriend that has him on a tight leash. Of course her brother disapproves of the choice. But there's no other option. The skates have to come back out. That girlfriend has to suck it up. Her brother must be forced to approve. That's only if nothing goes wrong... and NOTHING can go wrong. Nothing can stop her. Clarity has stars in her eyes, and dreams of gold trophies dancing in her head... ... until Jacin slips his leash, kisses Clarity, and makes things much, much more complicated. [boyxgirl] - - - '"You already know this, I'm sure, but I want to remind you that the type of skating we will be doing is still a team sport. The difference is, if you let your hockey buddies down, it's because you miss a pass, a goal, or have to sit in the penalty box." I fold my left leg back down to the ice and spin around to skate backwards in front of Jacin, matching the fast pace that he has already set. "You know what happens when you let me down?" I ask in a gentle, theoretical tone. "You drop me on my head, cracking my skull onto the ice, giving me a concussion. All because your talents stop at 'holding your own,'" I use his words against him and grin. "No pressure." "Wow, I thought you've been trying to talk me into skating with you, because you're not doing a very good job right now." Jacin laughs, but given the expression on his face, he's laughing for the same reason I did earlier: to cover up a different emotion.'
