JORDAN MACKENZIE has just lost her mother and brother, Nicholas, in a car accident while coming home from a first-place finish in her weightlifting competition. And while her father has also survived the accident, it feels like he's abandoned her too. Once a top athlete in her state, her body is now broken and just putting on a simple pair of pants is painful. It feels like she's lost her whole identity in the accident. All Jordan wants to do is hide in her room until the summer is over and then leave the town for college. When Nate, a billeting baseball player with the Cape Cod Baseball League, arrives bright and early one morning, Jordan has already decided that she doesn't like him. She doesn't like that he will be staying in Nicholas's room and she doesn't like that he seems so friendly and smug. Over the course of the summer, Jordan finds herself navigating (and sometimes avoiding) tricky relationships while trying to heal both her body and her mind.
