In Synth City, life has changed through the advances of technology, the public now largely aided by the androids designed to serve them. While there is an AI for nearly every occasion, restrictions are enforced that prohibit connections deeper than the congenial relationship between a robot and its overseer. AIs cannot feel. They cannot think. And they cannot love. This had been drilled into Isolde Roth's head since she was a child, restricted from ever interacting with them. After landing an internship for GIGA Technologies, aiding renowned scientist, Professor Kale Mercer, Isolde meets Project Z, one of Mercer's ongoing experiments for a line of fully cognizant androids. Tasked with documenting its progress, Isolde is forced to re-evaluate her thoughts and feelings for a being she knows logically can't think or feel the same as her and lacks the humanity he so longs to obtain.
