In February 2021, shortly after the release of the American's ninth studio album, evermore, a joint break-up note was published, and since then Zara has kept to working on smaller projects, refusing interviews and avoiding public appearances beyond the strictly necessary. Taylor, on the other hand, began re-recording her albums, embarked on a world tour celebrating her eras, and released two new albums, Midnights and THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT, featuring lyrics that not only refer to her past relationship with the Englishwoman, but also to the brief moments she had with Matty Healy and Travis Kelce after they broke up. Tired of hearing songs about herself and her former relationship, Zara drops a surprise album overnight, after nearly 5 years without making music, telling her side of the story.
