In a small American town over Labor Day weekend, Louis, a fragile single father, lives alone with his thirteen-year-old son, Andrew. Since his difficult divorce years ago, Louis has felt a deep loneliness and struggled with depression, withdrawing from the world around him. Though he does his best to care for Andrew, his emotional vulnerability often leaves him isolated, forcing Andrew to take on more responsibility than most kids his age. While out shopping with Andrew one day, Louis encounters Harry, an injured and desperate man on the run. Harry had been married once, but his wife divorced him after feeling he wasn't fully committed to their relationship-unaware he had been hiding his true self and sexuality. Unable to be honest at the time, Harry still carries emotional scars from the breakup and the years of solitude that followed. Under tense circumstances, Harry asks Louis and Andrew for help, needing a place to hide from the authorities. Though wary, Louis agrees out of a mix of fear and compassion for this troubled man. - Highly inspired by Labor Day by Joyce Maynard, same story, but Larry stylinson
