Kara Smith was enjoying freedom. She was enjoying life out from under Vought's thumb, enjoying the way she was free to live life as she intended to: Being a nobody. She was content with living life in peaceful mediocrity, being known as your average beat reporter and editor for the Newspaper of Hell's Kitchen. That was, until she met Butcher. William Butcher had swooped into her life with a charming overconfidence that occasionally made her question why she didn't fly off into space and never return. Unfortunately it was also his charming overconfidence that drew her back to him, like a moth to a flame. Except the moth had superpowers and a homicidal maniac of a brother who had an extreme Oedipus Complex. Still, as Kara continues to help Butcher she can't help but feel a spark. A sense of acceptance and belonging that she had never felt anywhere else. But that's impossible. She's a supe, and Butcher hates supes... right?
