Beatrix doesn't live in a normal world. Not any more.

Seventy-five years ago, the lights all over the world went out. And when they came back on, people with mind powers came forward to rule the former United States. Other countries figured out how to work with these people. But, in the new country of Avalon, those with powers were in power. Beatrix belongs to a group of rebels who want to over-throw the government. But, as Beatrix's responsibilities grow, it becomes apparent that one group just wants to take over for the other. She is unsure how she fits in. And how the new husband that was forced on her fits in to everything else.
