Fate is on the line in this steampunk-esque, adventure, fantasy novella. Michael Bandolier, a simple bookbinder from Wind Quarry, accepts an offer from the oddest of characters who says he can aptly correct his fate and put his destiny back on track.

By taking a paying job to hunt down the mayor’s stolen watch, Michael Bandolier finds himself fulfilling a secret family destiny.

With the help of Debora, his underestimated secretary, Michael is wound into the ultimate struggle between good and evil, trying to save a world that is nothing like he imagined.

The enemy has acquired a map that leads to the complicator, a legendary device said to contain the power to reshape the earth. But even with fate, and a newly discovered family history at his back, Michael learns he can't succeed without the help of his unassuming office assistant. Debora proves to be more than just the quiet office help, and Michael can never look at her the same again.

The first in a series of fantasy novellas, this story is set in an alternate world of steampunk-esque qualities, such as airships, paddle-wheel boats and secret machines buried deep in the earth. Michael and Debora's mission takes them from the Great City to the canyons of Wind Quarry where they face the stark question- Is fate a friend or a foe?
