On *Wattpad*, "private reader" isn’t an official Wattpad term either, but here’s what people usually mean by it:
### *What "private reader" means on Wattpad:*
1. *They read your story but aren't following/commenting*
Wattpad shows you total reads and votes, but not _who_ read it unless they comment or vote. So most readers are "private" — you can see the read count go up, but not who they are.
2. *Their profile is set to private*
If someone follows you or comments and their profile is private, you’ll see their username but very little info on their profile. They can still read and vote on your stories.
3. *They’re reading in "offline/private mode"*
Some readers use Wattpad without logging in, or they read without interacting. The app counts it as a "read" but you get zero info about them.
### *Bottom line:*
If your reads went up but you don’t know who they are = that’s normal. 90% of Wattpad readers are "private readers". It just means someone enjoyed your story quietly
Wattpad only tells you who voted, commented, or added your story to a reading list.
