A lifelong reader whose love for fantasy was forged by novels like Guy Gavriel Kay's Tigana. Writing under pen name Marian Land, I am also writer of Earthborn - a labor of love 15 years in the making. Earthborn is an experiment : a fantasy novel where the father - daughter dynamic is not a subplot, but a very narrative engine and beating heart of the story. This is notoriously rare in the genre, and I wanted to see if I could make it work. The story consciously subverts tired tropes, not for the sake of it, but to stay true to its core themes. At every turn I chose harder, more dangerous path. The result feels like dancing on a taut wire over a field of landmines - terrifying at times, but also immensely rewarding. My hope is, while the themes feel familiar, the execution feels wholly original. As a non-native English speaker with experience in non-fiction, Earthborn is my first venture into serializing and translating my own fiction. The prose is deliberately preserved in my own cadence to give the story its unique, authentic flavor.
