@yeollin22 Thank u so much for appreciating my description. To be honest with you it was very hard for me to describe the surrounding area of the characters at first. I'll give some tips but just a disclaimer, it might not work for everyone.
1.Learn a lot of descriptive vocab and implement them in the right atmosphere e.g If you're going to describe a scary scene, obviously you're going to have to apply words that sends shivers to your spine like Ghastly, Ghostly, foggy etc.
2. Imagine as if you're the character in a place and describe what you would see in a certain situation. If you can't think of any in your head, then Google some pictures that you deem would be perfect to write about.
3. I know you're asking about describing the surrounding, yet just be genuine of what you write. Sometimes making a good story isn't about pretty words and description (Edit: it kinda is). You need to be able to dig into people's emotion chamber called the heart. When people understand the feeling you put out, that stands out to them that they will say "This author knows how to make me feel ways that I've/ I've never felt before"
Those are my tips. I hope they're nifty enough even though I'm not that good of a writer. Nonetheless I'm still learning as well. Geez I haven't written for a long time. AND read lots of books! Or short stories of different genres to have a broad view when writing.
Thank you xx
