so i just finished watching an episode of merlin, and even if you don’t watch it, im going to deliver to you THE FUCKING ANGST I HAVE TO DEAL WITH
backstory: so basically arthur trusts a sorcerer and ends up nearly killing his father, the king, because his dad killed his mother. and on the whole crusade with the sorceress, arthur thinks “huh maybe not all magic is bad” which merlin is elated by because maybe one day he can tell arthur about his magic. but when arthur has the king pinned down, about to kill him, merlin comes in and tells him the enchantress was lying (she wasnt though, merlin was just trying to get him not to kill his dad) and he ends up convincing arthur not to do it.
NOW HERES THE SCENE THAT WILL MAKE YOU GO LOOK UP THIS SHOW ON NETFLIX
Merlin entered Arthurs chambers to see him standing by the window, looking out in thought. Merlin moves to start cleaning Arthurs armor, and gets a start on it when Arthur then says, “I am indebted to you Merlin, I had become confused” he paused and then continued, “It is once again clear to me that those who practice magic are evil and dangerous, and that is thanks to you”
Merlin realizes what he’s trying to say and his heart breaks. He finally thought that just maybe he could be open to Arthur and he would accept him for who he was.
With a smile on his face and pain in his eyes Merlin says, “Glad I could help”
merthur will be my emotional ruin
