My go-to genre is paranormal romance, and if my characters swear, I actually type out the swear instead of starting it and using *** for the rest of the words because that's kind of dumb in my opinion; if you're not comfortable with typing out specific words, then don't use those words. In that case, say in narration [this character] swore/cussed. Simple, especially if they swear in a different language that you yourself are not familiar with.
