The Origin of the Origin:

I've been at the writing quest for over twenty years. I have an MFA in English, and like a lot of writers, I learned to squeeze story into the cracks of life - early drafts of ZKS were written on my lunch breaks at work.
A relative in the biotech industry once gave me hundreds of articles on synthetic biology. I devoured them, and they became fuel for the imagination, seeding the world of ZKS. That world kept growing in notebooks and scraps of drafts until it demanded a full story.
I've written other works, but ZKS feels different. It's one that keeps me up at night. It's the one that pushes me to find better ways to keep writing - even something as practical as saving up for an e-ink monitor so I can keep going without straining my eyes.
For me, this is about breaking free. About finally putting the work in readers' hands, not just on my hard drive. And about building something alongside a community that sees value in the weird and the urgent.
