Why you should PAY for an editor? Having someone edit your document for free is a wonderful step towards finalizing your piece. However, they often lack the training and time to give your story the detailed attention you need. They might serve better as a beta reader or an extra proofreader. A professional editor will often work with what you can afford (especially for unpublished or first-time authors), including me! We can better estimate the type of editing your book really needs or if it needs another revision.
