I am writing a new book about a little girl who’s mother died. She lives with her father, whom is the main character throughout the book you will experience the story through the eyes of (in first person). The girl doesn’t understand what death is, and despite her father being atheist and simply not believing in afterlife, he tells his daughter that her mother is in heaven, hoping it will make her mother’s death sound happier than it really is. The girl then says she will make a pair of wings to fly to heaven to meet her mother, and her father agrees to help, thinking it will be a fun way for himself and his daughter to bond, not realising his daughter wants to actually fly. One day she’s in the countryside, running about with her wings, but she runs towards a cliff edge and thanks her father for believing in her, saying she is going to fly to heaven to find her mother. Before her father can stop her, she jumps off and spreads her wings, expecting to fly, but splatters on the rocks tens of metres below and dies. I will gladly take any ideas to help improve my story, but I want to write something metaphorical and emotional. This is the sort of book that you won’t help but cry at the end. I also am wondering what the mother should be called. The daughter is called Angelina (formed from the word Angel) as it’s fitting considering the theme of heaven and death. Thank you!

@OneTaylor1508 Thanks for the name idea! I already introduced the mother a bit so I’ll just go back and edit it.

You can name the mother Opaline (it means Jewel) and the main idea of the story is soo touching! I loved it!
