Hi,
I started on Wattpad 11th of June, 2013. I first posted a story on the 19th of June. And I just updated as much as I can.
When I first update a story, I post as much chapters until the story is already taking shape. I don't just post the first five chapters, which is just laying down the basics of the story. You have to leave the readers with a promise that your novel is going somewhere. Otherwise, they will lose interest.
When things are already exciting and you get good comments asking for more, it means you got readers who actually get what you were aiming for with your story.
Then I interact with them as much as I can. I answer comments, I thank them for reading. I make them feel involved with the story, while I'm writing it. After all, one of the points in writing is pleasing your audience.
Also, I always say this to the other writers here. DOn't keep your readers hanging for long. If you make them wait for the update too long, they lose the momentum or interest in your story. That is why I only start posting a book if I'm sure i've finished writing it. Otherwise, you go into writers' block in the middle of it, and you have angry readers left hanging for months! LOL!
I see that you're critiquing stories. Please always remind the writers you work with finish what they started! LOL! I was stuck with at least two books here on Wattpad and I keep pestering the author to update! She just trailed off and didn't update for almost two months. Now, I was sorry that I even started reading her book. LOL!
Some of the authors even ask for a minimum vote before they post the other updates. I don't get that. If your book is good, people will vote for it. If somebody you critique asks for this, please advise them not to. LOL
Anyway, thanks! Hope to chat more. :D
