Hey fellow word warriors! Sorry, it's been a while since I posted an update, but summer and kids make for a busy life when combined with everything else. I wanted to let everyone know that I will be taking Dawn of Corruption down in two weeks. My latest beta readers have given some great feedback, and I will be finishing up my last edits to begin seriously querying. So if you've wanted to read, or are in the middle of reading, you have some time to finish before it's unavailable... At least until it's on the bookshelves ;)
@HWGreenwood Just got restarted on the baristas' sequel, after a bit of a diversion to write another book. No publishers yet (I would probably need to actually approach one for that to be any kind of a chance of happening) but the first book is ticking over as a paid story, so that's nice. Anyway, I've got my fingers crossed for you.
Came back from my journey of agony. How are you doing?
@HWGreenwood That's pretty awesome. Good for you! I also have a beta-reader for my story, she's quite helpful about giving and informing changes. Being a freshman is quite rough apparently. And I am making my in through digital painting (It's a lot harder than traditional drawing). Despite all of the difficulties, my wattpad is still getting strong, as of matter of fact, my first book had its first winner as 3rd place in the fantasy category of Litwits award, couldn't be happier in wattpad. And once I survive freshman, I'm good to polish The Dragonslayer once more before finally proceeding to book 2. My beta-reader is lucky considering that she's the first to see the whole thing.
@M-J-Cervanez haha, I hope life hasn't been that bad. Things are going well! I've got my last batch of beta readers giving me feedback and trying to get through this last edit, then I'll start querying agents. It's pretty amazing to see how polished my novel has become! How are things going for you?
@HWGreenwood I wanted you to know how much I admire you, Dan, and how appreciative I am. You've been such a supportive friend on Wattpad and a great teacher. There are a few people I can point to with confidence and honestly say I wouldn't be where I am in my writing if I hadn't met you. You're one of those people. You explain things in a way that makes it easy for me to understand and implement. Even passing on the knowledge of what you've worked hard to absorb yourself and do it sincerely. You're hard work and dedication to whatever you set your mind to is nothing short of inspirational. In the short two years I've come to know you I see you as a loving husband and proud father and one day, a famous author. Thank you for being one of my Wattpad heroes! @MajesticIncAwards #majesticchallenge
@JRShepherd I don't even know what to say. Wow and thank you! That made my day. I've been floundering in editing, so I really appreciate this
Hey, word warriors! The San Francisco Writers Conference was awesome and I'm still trying to digest everything I learned. I completely see why they recommend attending one, as I'm supercharged with ideas, contacts, new knowledge, and page requests from agents! Since it's always query season for the #WritingCommunity and finding an agent is necessary to get you book traditionally published. I posted a guide with everything I learned from an agent who gave a lecture on query letters, and a few more conversations I had about the subject. So if you're looking to know how write a query letter, and why should you personalize it to an agent, check out the latest blog at https://hwgreenwood.com/?p=790 I was able to have several one on one conversations with agents, editors, and a marketing consultant and got some insight into your questions. I've got a blog post coming with those answers, but first I wanted to write the article on query letters (especially since that's what I've been feverishly been doing since I got back). Hope life is treating everyone well!
@MichaelHoliday hope it helps! There was so much great information, I've got so much I want to share now.
Hey, fellow word warriors! Sorry I've been absent for a while, but I've been editing like a maniac. I completed my overhaul, and just in time for the San Fransisco Writers Conference tomorrow! I've put in a lot of prep work and believe I'm ready to rub elbows with the industry… even if I'm nervous as hell. I've gathered quite a few questions from some fellow authors, but if you have something you'd like me to ask agents and editors, let me know. I'll be blogging about the conference on my website and will post links when they're up. I also posted the first short story in my blog expanding the world of Valeron, and you can check it out here: https://hwgreenwood.com/2019/02/05/endless-loyalty-short-story/ Hope everyone is having a great week!
Hello! Thanks so much for following me and supporting me last year :) Part of my goals in 2019 is to be more interactive with my followers, and to try to read their books and comment, so here is me doing that. I wish you a very happy 2019!
@EMAudrey haha, scratch that. Someone friended me with similar initials as you. But if you use goodreads I'll totally follow you there too ;)
@EMAudrey thank you, and to you too! Saw your friend request on goodreads, if you're on Twitter, let me know, and I'll follow you there too. Best of luck looking forward to 2019!
Happy New Year! May this fresh start ahead bring growth, success, and joy to each one of you. I'm looking forward to to seeing all of those creative stories you have stewing ;)
@HWGreenwood Let's hope that 2019 is gonna be a good one for all of us. Happy new year!
I've come to regret the decision to step away from the wattpad community to focus solely on editing. I gave myself a very lofty goal, but knew I could push myself to get there. I've sure missed our discussion on all of your awesome works though. You've sparked such awesome ideas! And you, lurker. Hi. I'm Troy. How have you been? Merry Christmas
@HWGreenwood I feel your pain. It sounds like you're staying serious about your work, though, which is great. I hope editing goes well and that you don't stay away too long!
Awesome, @tlryder Going back is hard since we're always learning, so it's inevitable to cringe, but even that should be encouraging :P Multiple POV's are my favorite, there's so much you can do with it! Life won't let up, so editing is going slower than I want, but faster than it could be. At least the kids are getting older and finding time is a little easier. Right now I'm just shooting to have this pass done by February, I plan on one more light pass to unify all of the character voices, but I'm not putting a goal on that for now. I'm going to wait and see how my writers conference goes, then decide if I should just start querying and edit while I go, or hit the editing hard. It's stressful figuring out if you want to put all of your eggs in one basket, or cut bait and see where it goes. So much time and effort goes into a book, it feels like it will never end. Haha
@HWGreenwood I've been busily patching up and posting the "sequel" to Ran. It's actually the "first" book and Ran was written as a prequel later. It's been a long time since I've messed with this story. Parts of it are a little cringe inducing, parts of it I love a lot. It has, like your Dawn of Corruption, multiple POVs (5!). It's also much goofier. I see from your comments with Jake that you're still going strong on the editing. Do you have a potential finish date for your Dawn of Corruption edits?
Good morning, all you courageous word warriors! Quick update for anyone interested: Editing is still cruising along (dear God it's labor intensive), and each chapter gets stronger and stronger. Thankfully, I'm getting ahead of schedule, but I do need a couple of beta-readers willing to offer their impressions (no need for nit-picking commas, just if you connect with the characters and things you like/don't like). So if you're interested, PM me. I have some great writer's resources that I'm offering to every reader (or even if you just want a copy): "The 7-Step Guide to Authorpreneurship" By Rochelle Carter, "5 Online Resources Every Serious Writer Needs" by Jerry B. Jenkins, and "Promote then Publish - 3 Vital Steps in Early-stage Book Marketing" from BookBaby. As a side note, and in order to unify my platform, I am changing my username to @hwgreenwood. I hope everyone has an amazing Thanksgiving!
@JRShepherd Doubling up on Dawn? Dang, you must be a glutton for punishment. Haha. Alright, I'm going to rework the beginning a little, then I'll PM you and let you loose ;) Would you like any or all of the writer's resources? I believe I already have your email...
@M-J-Cervanez No worries, thank you for the thought! Best of luck with the impending tests!
