Writing is my favorite hobby, and I hope to pursue it as a career someday as well. I generally don't like cliches or sappy romances- I look for things that stand out. Sci-fi, cyberpunk, steampunk, fantasy... those tend to be my favorite genres. Of course, romance is never a bad thing, but I prefer less fluffy types. I was a 2011 NaNoWriMo participant, and I aim to go again this year as well and hopefully win. 
And for the tropers out there... if you see something that could be a reference to a trope, then you're probably right.
Just the way the cookie crumbles.
