@Kate_Torchia Well, if you think about it, JFK really couldn't afford to go to war since nuclear weapons that were able to wipe out entire countries would have been involed in a war with the Soviet Union. It was too risky. Whereas Roosevelt could go to an "old-fashioned" sort of war and it had been his aspiration to be a war hero in his youth. I see your point, though, I've never liked his empirialistic point of view. I don't approve of empirialism at all. Still, I liked his refreshingly optimistic approach to politics - since most of our presidents were decidedly shrewd and practical, althoug very talented - and how he cared about the enviornment.
