“He comes home to rest his head He walks upstairs to go to bed He hears her moaning through the door He goes downstairs into the drawer He sees a box and takes it out Then aims the gun into his mouth” To keep this as short as possible; this verse I too think is for the most part literal. The husband as mentioned in the first verse has came home, maybe from a job. He goes up stairs with the expectation of resting but the doors closed and he hears her moaning. He then goes down stairs to kill himself. I think he simply thought she was cheating and he couldn’t fathom that so he decided to kill himself. “She hears a bang and she runs downstairs To see her husband lying there Close the door and shut the blinds She fights off tears and dries her eyes Thoughts of peace and happiness Are gone Gone In just an instant.” Again, to keep this short I I think this verse simply just describes her hearing the gun shot and stopping what she’s doing (masturbating) to see what the noise was to only see her dead husband. It describes her crying and ultimately losing that paradise. Now my opinion on your interpretation is simply a bit of a reach. I was surprised on how you managed to make the man sort of a dependent villain in a way. You referenced patriarchy, self loathing, etc. but the thing that struck me the most is how you described him committing suicide as selfish to her. It only struck me because of how you framed it, you didn’t frame it in such a way that now she’s without her husband or that he misunderstood but rather him killing himself which caused her to end her masturbation session. But anyway that’s my take.

I posted this here because it wouldn’t let me do it on your actual interpretation post, sorry. But I really wanted to share this.
