Surprise New Release Alert!

Mine Before Dawn by Raegan Salander

I have a little something new for you.
This story is quite different from my usual fare. There are no billionaires, no werewolves, and no modern settings. Instead, I've travelled back to a Yorkshire mining town in the 1960s to tell a story about love, prejudice, courage, and finding home in the most unexpected of places. It was published on Patreon and I have now edited it and brought it to Amazon.

I hope you'll take a chance on Asha and James and fall in love with them as much as I did.

          	BLURB

A dark-skinned stranger arrives in town.
And she is not alone. In her arms is a four-year-old boy.
In 1960s Wakefield, Asha is everything the town fears—foreign, alone, and carrying a blurred past. Doors close. Words cut deep. In a place where the unknown is something to fear and repel, an unmarried woman with a child has prey written all over her.
James has never looked beyond the life he's always known—until her.
What begins as ribald comments in the shadows turns into something he can't let go of.
Can something born in darkness survive the light of dawn?

          	Content Notes / Triggers

          	• Misogyny and sexism reflective of the era
          	• Social prejudice and discrimination
          	• Historical racism and xenophobia
          	• References to child marriage
          	• Threatening and stalking behaviour
          	• Poverty and social hardship
          	• Strong dominant male character

I did not prep this one at all. It is live now.

Hey poppets,

I hate making posts like this because those of you who’ve followed me for a while know I usually just grit my teeth and power through a story until it’s finished. But I wanted to be honest with you all instead of doing a Chuck Cunningham.

For now, Insidious is going on hold.

There are a couple of bits in the story that I’m struggling to write the way they deserve to be written(in other words I had to bin what I have written because I don't like it.). I’ve reached that point where forcing words onto the page will only hurt the story, so I’ve decided to step back for a bit, reread the entire thing properly, and come back to it with a clearer head.

Yes — I will finish it here on Wattpad. I’m not abandoning the story.

But realistically, it probably won’t be for a few weeks while I finish Mine After Dawn on Patreon, because right now that’s the story I find myself more emotionally committed to and creatively connected with.
          Apologies again.
          Much love
          Rae

@RaeganSalander Thank you for being you. If the story isn't working for you, you have every right to put it on hold and even discontinue it if that feels right.
