Hello! I'm going to start uploading my currently in beta project that is the first thing I have ever written! I want to see what kind of attention it gets if any. I'm gonna put out the first part and we will just see what happens. Be on the lookout for that. The project is called Tales of an Uncaring God.

@page_mars yeah i'm not really looking for read for read. I would like people to enjoy my writing without some sort of contractual obligation. But I can put it here and maybe get some buzz before I try to self publish it I suppose. I just noticed better engagement when you're super active so I was wondering if having something in my back pocket would be an advantage here.

So right now I am writing Masks of Ourselves and releasing it as I write it. I have a seperate manuscript of a different story that needs to be beta read that I planned on self publishing. But I wonder if I would be better off publishing it here to get some feedback on it. Any thoughts?

Another thought too, is to use royal road as your qualifier and not Wattpad.

Royal road features your story whenever you publish a new chapter. And the reads you have? You know none of them are you- Wattpad counts you as a read. Royal road does not count you as a view as long as you are logged in when viewing. You will be able to track how many readers are actually reading your story.

I’d just keep in mind that most readers are not Royal road members. Over the past 4 months I’ve only had 3 actual members reading- so that’s only 3 people who could favorite or follow.

Royal road members primarily read litrpg and isekai. But you can still track views and know it’s being read. a silent non-member reading every chapter feels better than nothing.

Wattpad is still a good place to publish too, your story is just less visible so it can feel disheartening.

@page_mars I actually have more reads on royal road. But the community is much more engaged here on wattpad.

I have a new chapter for Masks of Ourselves, but my last one is either too new or not interesting enough. So I'm gonna hold off and see if people want me to keep going with this. Thanks for reading!

@Silas_Hatcher oh that's high praise and good advice. Thank you so much for the support.

@Silas_Hatcher It belongs anywhere and everywhere! Writing is great, but publishing and sharing is stupid lol. There's so many finicky details that make it hard to find an audience.
Wattpad cares about community activity. That's what makes you visible, so it's kind of important to continuously advertise and/or read a lot from others so your name is recognized and you get people curious.
Royal Road cares alot about covers, blurbs, and hooks. And they're more likely to bail when anything looks ai. You are visible most when you publish a new chapter. But atleast you're visible.

What I've seen of your story is that it's only a few chapters, and a lot of people won't take the time to read stories that are short.

If your writing is something you love and you're passionate about, keep putting it out there. You've got some interesting black mirror vibes going on with your dystopia. You have an audience. Those people just suck at finding you lol.

You could see if you can tweak some things so your story stands out to those readers with a neon sign that says 'This is an interesting dystopia with literary control, and twists!" Your audience is probably the same as those people who love black mirror and things like it. :)

The only writing advice I have you for you personally is the whole 'show/don't tell' thing. Which I'm working on too. And the word "visage"being used frequently and could be replaced by something else once in a while, unless it's intentional.
I think your story is brilliant, and I plan on reading more once I'm more caught up on writing.

@page_mars thanks for responding and the kind words. The truth is I am on royal road and it's got even less traction there. Which is fine, I'm not complaining or anything. I'm actually having a lot of fun writing it, but I'm having trouble figuring out where it belongs. I will keep posting just to get the stuff out there. I knew what kind of place this was when I signed up lol
