Hi,

Your story truly inspired me it feels like it’s not just meant to be read, but also seen. I’m a commission artist specializing in comics and manga, and I believe that with your storytelling depth and my artistic skills, we could create a powerful and unforgettable visual adaptation.

I’d love to connect and discuss ideas, style, and commissions. Bringing your story to life visually would be really exciting!

Flashbacks to that time — Carl as a little kid, Shane loving being the “fun uncle,” the moment that jealousy and yearning kick in — would have been incredible. It would make his neglect of his daughter even more cutting. It wouldn’t just be “he doesn’t care,” it would be “he tried to mimic something he could never have.” That’s a gut punch I would’ve loved to see.

And then the way you showed him being rough on her — that was powerful. When you had him pulling her into adult conversations, I really thought you were setting up something even darker: like he’d escalate, maybe become physically intimidating, or start “training” her with knives and survival skills right away. I think that would’ve made his spiral hit even harder, especially as he’s pushed further away from Lori and Carl.

None of this takes away from how good this fic already is. It’s gritty, it’s bold, and it absolutely owns its story. I just see so many places where you could deepen it even more, and honestly? It deserves that kind of expansion. This fic is too good to be buried on Wattpad. Please, please consider cross-posting on AO3 or SF. It would shine there.

(I'm only on chap 28, btw)

DotD:
First of all — this fic is too good for Wattpad. I say that with my whole chest. I came to Wattpad out of sheer, desperate hunger for a good reluctant father trope, and you delivered. I hate Wattpad’s ranking system with a burning passion, but seeing your fic actually properly rated and ranked felt like striking gold.

I have an insatiable hunger for stories like this — the reluctant father dynamic, the messy emotions, the fallout. Usually, I go straight for a Daryl fic, because finding a good one is rare. So seeing this Shane-has-a-daughter fic that actually hits? Oh, I was all in. And honestly? You absolutely nailed the depiction of how Shane just did not care for his daughter. The way you kept showing his emotional distance, his obsession with Carl and Lori, and how rough he was with the girl — that landed. It was raw and painfully believable.

That said, if I’m being honest, it did feel a little one-note at times. I don’t think he came across as super layered here — more like a man who just repeatedly proves he’s not father material. And that absolutely works for this story, but it made me crave a bit more complexity.

For example, I think making his daughter younger than Carl could add another layer of depth. Imagine Shane watching Rick and Lori build this little family with Carl. He’s Uncle Shane — he’s in Carl’s life, watching this picture-perfect thing he wants. Maybe at that point, he decides to chase that feeling and rush into his own version of it. Maybe not a one-night stand, but a fast relationship, a forced family picture. He’s happy when she’s pregnant, then finds out it’s a girl and feels that first crack of disappointment. It would give such a great foundation for his bitterness, his resentment, and the way he distances himself later.
