I enjoy writing fan fiction as training for my own novel. I often compare it to wanting to be in the NFL. People spend years watching the game, joining community teams, playing highschool/college and then move on to the professional level. No one gets up one day and just joins. Training and practice is essential to mastering any skill. Creativity is just working on the brain instead of the body.
