OK, I need to talk about the romanticisation and normalisation of incest in the media in recent years. It's a topic I've already discussed with some of my mutuals. There was already an increase with GOT, but it reached its peak with HOTD.
          
          What disturbs me is not so much the presence of incest, but the way it is approached. Tho ASOIAF is a fantasy universe, it is also inspired by the medieval era. Throughout human history, there have been weddings between cousins in different civilisations. It's real. It has happened. So yes, you can include it in your show, but that doesn't mean it should be normalised. Including this in a modern adaptation should be done to draw criticism and expose the issue.
          
          I think the writers and showrunners of HOTD should consider therapy. They have real issues. They add so many unnecessary and weird scenes, and for what? Nothing. They bring nothing to the story, but indulge in a fetishistic fantasy. First it was the Larys/Alicent scenes, then the Daemon and his mum, and now Aemond/Alicent. And there are so many other disturbing things.
          
          Even in the ASOIAF universe, incest is criticised. Only the Valyrian house (here the Targaryen) continued to do so. Read the book or even AKOTSK to find out more. The Targaryens are criticised. People judge them. Especially the very religious houses, like the Hightower. When Aegon conquered Westeros, they caused a lot of trouble because of that. People stopped fighting because they feared the dragons, but they never stopped thinking badly of them.
          
          So now that brings me to the author of the ASOIAF fic. Why is there fic where the OC are from a Westerosi house with incest? It contributes to the normalization and romanticization of incest. Tbh, I think you're weird if you do incest with oc that is not valyrian. Just because it's an ASOIAF fic, it doesn't make it ok. And of all the houses, I'm going to speak about the house Hightower.

@_dreamya YESYESYES PLZZZ IT NEEDED TO BE SAID THANK U!! first of all even the targaryens were not doing incest to that degree during AKOTSK era, they were forming alliances with other houses. second, it totally ruins the core of characters like baelor when u have them thirsting for their underage neices and daughters. there is a genuine problem of the glorification of incest in the fandom. and you are sooo correct for mentioning that when the incest creeps into other westerosi houses because they would NOT be doing that. in the name of "religious guilt" tropes, ppl throw around gross relationships and justify it by saying oh he feels rlly bad about it. BUT ITS WEIRD AND UNREALISTIC AF. gwayne would NOT be thirsting after his neice, plz and thanks. the hightowers are THE most faith obsessed house and the biggest comdemners of incest, they would NOT be doing all that. like there are other sins to explore ppl in the name of religious guilt

Of all the houses, they were the one who fought against the practice of incest the most. They were the ones who judged and disagreed the most. I think it's really weird  to ssee any Gwayne, Ormund fic with incest, or even Alicent. Making those characters go with their nieces or sisters ? I think it's wrong and weird to do that. Some writers of ASOIAF fic seem really obsessed with icest, an it's really unsettling. And I choose my words carefully. And yes it's that deep. Fiction doens't make eveything ok.
