I was born, several decades ago now, in a small city built upon a plateau, cleft by the canyon carved by the local river-a city that is also the capital of its province. I have lived as well in other small towns, and have come to know countless living souls, each with their stories and their excuses.
Now I dwell in the metropolis, where I continue to encounter stories-often preferring them to the company of those who inhabit them. I delight in fine books, fine films, and fine conversation. Coffee rather than liquor. Writing before sleeping.
