"JACK GET BACK HERE WITH MY BOOMERANG!"
Bunny's yell ricocheted through Santa's workshop, but Jack Frost just grinned, flipping midair, rising higher toward the wooden beams. He spun the boomerang between his fingers, laughing.
"You'll get it if you can catch me, Aussie."
Bunny's ears twitched with irritation. "SWEAR ON MY NEW EGG BASKETS—IF YOU DON'T GET DOWN HERE AND GIVE IT BACK, I'M GONNA—"
"Enough."
The voice cut through the chaos, making both of them freeze.
The workroom doors swung open, and out stepped a burly man, wearing a red-and-black flannel and a salt-and-pepper beard (which, let's be honest, had way more salt than pepper).
North folded his arms, shaking his head. "Look at you two—acting like children." He gestured at Jack. "Boomerang—give it back." Then at Bunny. "Pipe down before you wake the factory. Elves need sleep too."
Jack sighed dramatically, floating down and handing Bunny back his weapon. Bunny grabbed it, grumbling the whole time.
"Why are we here, North?" Tooth asked, wings fluttering so fast they were a blur as she gave instructions to her workers. "You said something important was happening."
North gestured to the moon overhead.
"The Man in the Moon has chosen yet another new Guardian."
Silence.
Then—light.
Above them, the small crystal on the wooden pedestal pulsed, projecting an image into the air.
A girl.
Fiery-orange hair laced with gold, fading into a starry night sky at the tips. Dark brown skin. A mischievous smile. A hand rested on her hip like she knew exactly what she was doing here.
