If you've heard of The Mertrette, yeah, they were here before and are buddies of mine. 
The reason the pronouns there are "they/them" is not because they're gay, but because what The Mertrette is is a duo, Mermen and Quitrette. Matter of grammar rules. No, they ain't a ship either.
