I’m not going to say where I stand on the vaccine situation. I’m not going to say whether or not I’m getting it. This has nothing to do with me.
However, I’ve seen too many people being shamed, scolded, guilt tripped, bullied, even sent death threats for not wanting the vaccine.
Let me tell you why this is unacceptable.
Here are some facts: we do not know the long term effects the vaccine could have on us.
Most vaccines we have are old and have been around long enough to know that down the line, they are safe.
The statement “Oh, you won’t get the vaccine because you don’t know what you’re putting in your body, but you’ll eat McDonalds?” is a totally invalid argument, and is currently the only argument I’ve seen used. McDonalds is an old restaurant. All of us know what McDonalds does to our bodies, and like it or not, we know exactly what is in their food. One burger will not kill you. Two burgers will not kill you. Three burgers won’t even kill you! The vaccine? We do. Not. Know.
How do we know that 10 years down the line, there won’t be some awful incurable disease caused by the vaccine?
People who decide not to get vaccinated know the risks. They know Covid is killing people. They absolutely know this. At the end of the day, this is a medication. This is a DRUG.
If someone chooses not to get the vaccine, they DO. NOT. HAVE TO. And you DO NOT get to tell them they do. You DO NOT get to call them selfish. You’re vaccinated. It doesn’t affect you.
It’s a complicated situation, and everyone is struggling. Let people struggle, let people fight their own battles. You are not in charge.
