When I first set out to write this story, I had no real goal but to write. I just had to get something out. There were no intentions of playing with the standard tropes, although it did fall under into themes of identity, surviving trauma, power positions, and grief. And I'm still going at it, but now I know why.
This was written primarily for those of us who have lost a child. Or anyone who meant a great deal to the us, no matter how we lost them. It's about the day after and how we carry on, and interact with a world without them.
Ultimately this is a story about how we create and uphold community, and family, after we are left behind to pick up the pieces.
