          Without actual feedback like votes, I'd be completely in the dark about how people felt about what they read. And I don't quite have the ego to simply assume that everyone liked it.

@Arveliot no problem :) I think you have the makings of a great writer, I was able to "see" your story play out in my head. Well done for that, it ain't easy. Plus anyone who likes Sherlock is automatically awesome in my book.
            
            Just one thing to be careful of is overusing exclamation points, they lose their effect when used in quick succession. I highly reccomend a book called  Writing Tools: 55 Essential Strategies for Every Writer. It helped me improve my writing SO much, and I think you'd gain a lot from it.
