Happy Sunday. If you haven't yet read Half Savage, my standalone southern gothic story loosely based on Wuthering Heights, you can now listen to it at the link below.

For those who just want to hear me squirm while reading the garage scene, that starts around 12:50.

I'm sorry to report that my addiction to other peoples' admiration has only worsened, and I will now be requiring in-line comments on my thoughts to summon the energy to write this chapter.

Thank you for helping Half Savage rank #4 in the contest tag.

And #126 of 106K in "blood"? Very interesting... (you'll have to read the story to understand that one). Oh, that's probably a vampire tag, isn't it. Ok, so no chance at my big break there.

(Is it too late to make Cathy a vampire...?)

          (Kidding.)

Ok, ok! I'll get back to writing! Sheesh!

(Unless anyone at all interrupts me.)

My Wuthering Heights story has a title, a cover (!!), and several hundred words. If this were last week, it'd be done and posted by now, but my mornings are full once again with the teaching of little people.

Confidentially Yours continues to fight for its life in the rankings anytime I post less than twice a week. I need to learn how to write faster. I'm having a hard time thinking about Chapter 24 now (though it should be a rollicking good time when it's done). A girl can only hold so many infatuations in mind at once!

Hope everyone's having a good first week back to work.

@petalandsnowink You always know how to put wind in my sails, Nana! The Wuthering Heights story will have one scene that's charged but not explicit. You might still find it too suggestive, but whether you read it or skip it, your friendship and encouragement means so much.

On the algorithm - I wish there was a minimal quality scanner. Not that my work is so great, but I feel like I'd be number 1 in everything if I could post 200-word chapters daily with no editing XD

Weird time to post, but I couldn't sleep so I finished Chapter 23.

Not sure how I feel about it, but enjoy!

(In it, Joe says "eighth grade" instead of "year eight" when talking about school. Fixed this in the written version.)

(Also, I do a British accent for 3 seconds - but only when Addison imitates Joe. Never when Joe himself is speaking. I would not insult him like that!)

Tonight I went to a party where a friend said that she sometimes wishes she could hear me tell the story of giving birth to my second child again because I tell it so well. This made me laugh and, since it was basically a writing compliment, was the highlight of my night. (And it is a good story, but I think I’ll stick to fiction here, thank you.)

And then later I had a tiff (a spat? A passionate talk?) with my husband in which he laughed so hard at something I said that he couldn’t speak for, like, a full minute, and by that time I was so flattered by what I considered to be *another* writing compliment that I wasn’t even mad anymore.

Actual writing was tough going today, but I developed some ideas, including a concept for the Wuthering Heights contest - which I think I should probably enter, since angst & romance & 19th century novels are kind of my specialty. I think I’ll do a southern gothic take, set in modern day. Something very dark and restrained and weirdly erotic. If I can write it without it taking over my brain.

The year is off to a fine start. I have no goals, for once. What about you guys?

I had planned to be very chic and distant until the new year, but then this morning I woke at 3 a.m. thinking "He's right! Of course he's right! About everything!!" (regarding recent feedback) and rewrote Chapter 22 from scratch in a fiery fit of passion.

It's long and emo and angsty, and I want you to have it now.

And as if that weren't crazy enough, I also recorded an audio version (I always read my chapters aloud for flow - highly recommend). So if you, like me, have laundry to fold and need to multitask, you can save 20 minutes of your life at the link in the comments below.

          Enjoy.

I recently finished beta reading the first ten thousand words of a contemporary romance so good that I would literally pay money to read the rest of it. Exchanged effusive emails with the author.

Had a smart, talented friend run the twist ending of her thriller by me yesterday. Was reminded again that only in the context of Wattpad books would she and I ever find ourselves in the same room (because she is so fabulous).

Received detailed and somewhat horrifying feedback on Confidentially Yours, which I read with my head in my hands and am now printing and combing through meticulously. (I'm a person who prints emails now.)

I can't believe this is my life. I have writing friends! I am officially the dumbest person in the room! This is exhilarating.

I've written Chapter 22, but I'm not posting it yet because everyone's off with their families, as they should be, and because of the aforementioned horrifying feedback.

          Miss you guys.

@n0nsense_verses I'm sure the person is a good writer but think of it this way. Have you ever had an AMAZING dish that you eat ALL THE TIME but the person put their own spin on it? Then you find out they added ingredients to the dish you NEVER would have thought of and made a ho hum dish a 10? The "ingredients" you add to your book may taste "thin" to that writer, but rich and meaningful to another reader/writer. Just saying! Don't change your "dish" too much or it might become theirs!

@petalandsnowink You’re so sweet, Nana. Thanks for making me laugh. Actually Joe’s mom fell in love with her brother’s best friend, who was a mafia boss, while they were fake dating. He was the captain of the hockey team, she was the daughter of Harry Styles… you know how these things go.

The thing is, this person is such an objectively good writer that I have no faith in my instincts right now. All my least favorite parts and people, he says I’ve done well and need more of. All my favorite chapters and characters he says are fundamentally flawed or thin or not coming across. It’ll be good for me to work through this. I do live in an echo chamber of praise most of the time, so to be given such cold feedback is a gift. But it has definitely knocked me on my back for the afternoon.

I really appreciate your reply!! (There should be heart emojis here) ❤️❤️❤️

@n0nsense_verses Ouch! Constructive criticism is the extent I can take of my work. It's hard enough to share. Although, I'm starting to write fluff that I don't care about as exercise to improve my craft. It is liberating! For what it's worth, I think your book and characters are some of the most interesting I have stumbled across here on Wattpad. A quiet corner away from billionaire CEOs, brother's best friends, vampires, and one night stands that end up with two parents who only come together because of a one-night stand - I hope I didn't just spoil anything in Confidentially, Yours. I doubt it, but just checking. ;) Girl, write on! There may be merit to that person's opinion but it's YOUR book. Not theirs. They don't know your characters like you do or what you're trying to convey. If their opinion changes your novel by more than 10%, it's time to step back and look at your original notes. You're a very good writer. Trust your instincts!

Ah sleep, that knits up the raveled sleeve of care...

Do you guys think the actual mafia is running Wattpad, and that's why I have to click off an ad for The Accardis every time I log in on mobile?

Now that I've successfully discharged all my erotic energy* into bonus scenes, I would ask all email subs to please expunge them from the record as we return to CANON Joe and Riley's very sweet, chaste, flirty relationship.
