            " first class, zack. at your service! " his smile seemed to not really fit a SOLDIER, but he had the spring in his step many needed. the salute was practiced, nearly muscle memory now. trying his best to be polite and professional despite the slight confusion. since the director went missing, he knew they would meet the president. he was just - expecting someone older?

            zack’s fingers drifted up almost without thinking, brushing lightly over the old scar that cut across his left cheek. for a second his eyes went distant, comparing the sharp memory of that wound to the dull throb under his chin. the decision came easy. this new cut was nothing more than a scratch. he dropped his hand and gave a short, bright laugh, shaking his head.
            
            “ pride? nah. more like… proof i was actually doing something useful today. ” he glanced down at the dusty trail he’d left and then back up at clyde, grin still firmly in place even as he took a careful half-step sideways so the worst of the dirt stayed where it was.
            
            “ and yeah, pretty much. most of the guys just rinse off what they can, slap a potion on the worst of it, and call it a night. baths are for when we’ve got actual free time. which isn’t often. as for stinging… ” he prodded the cut on his chin once more with his thumb, then shrugged.
            
            “ barely. honestly, i’ve had paper cuts that bothered me more. this one’s already half-forgotten. but hey, if it bothers you that much, i’ll try not to bleed on anything expensive while we’re talking. deal? ”

* clyde delicately pressed the corner of his handkerchief against his lower lip, observing, * is that... meant to be a point of pride? * clyde murmured, his voice smooth, refined, and carefully measured. * because i assure you, bleeding through one's collar does not lend oneself an air of rugged charm. it simply looks terribly unhygienic. *
            he cast a pointed glance down at the ground between them, eyeing the vague trail of trail-dust zack had brought with him.
            * and for the record, i am not treating you as though you are contagious, * clyde added, taking another infinitesimal step back and adjusting his lapels with meticulous care. * i am treating you as though you are filthy. which you undeniably are. do you truly mean to suggest that your comrades simply... allow themselves to be mauled by giant beasts and then go about their evening without so much as a proper bath? * he paused, looking up at zack's jaw again, his brow furrowing just a fraction deeper. * ..does it not sting? * he asked, the posh crispness in his tone wavering for a fraction of a second with genuine, bewildered curiosity. * at all?

            zack glanced down at himself, then casually wiped the back of his hand across his chin. when it came away with a smear of red he just shrugged, that same easy grin never fading.
            
            “ huh. would you look at that. guess i nicked myself after all. ” he rubbed the spot a little more, then waved the hand dismissively, already brushing more dust off his shoulder like the blood was nothing more than another patch of dirt.  
            
            “ still doesn’t count as rough, though. you should see some of the guys after a real mission. now those are the ones who look like they went a few rounds with a behemoth. this? ” he gestured vaguely at the scrapes and the drying streak on his jaw. “ barely a scratch. but hey… ” he took a half-step closer, careful not to track too much dirt toward the other man’s pristine coat, and tilted his head with a playful glint in his eyes. “ appreciate the concern. most people just tell me to toughen up. you’re … kinda polite about it. even if you are treating me like i’m contagious. ”

            " liability? " zack's smile didn't falter, though a faint tilt of his head showed he was processing the sharp words. he kept his gloved hand out a moment longer before letting it drop to his side, not wanting to force anything. " i get that you're on a crunch. really, i do. but calling me a liability before we've even properly met feels a little premature, don't you think? "  he shifted his weight, blue eyes steady but still carrying that easy warmth he always seemed to have. 
            
            " i've been trained for this kind of thing. first class means i've already handled worse than most people ever see. if something out here is dangerous enough that you're this on edge, then yeah—maybe i can take some of that weight off your shoulders instead of adding to it. " zack gave a small, almost sheepish shrug, the kind that said he wasn't trying to argue just for the sake of it. " i won't get in your way. promise. but walking away when someone clearly needs backup? that's not really in the job description. so… at least tell me what i'm looking at. even if you still decide you want me gone after. "
            
            ； that is super good to know. I will give it a try when i can. currently running through ff7 and ff15 after first. 

a quiet scoff followed in pursuit of the cockiness in the other's tone,    intentional or not ..    verso didn't have the time,    let alone the patience to be bothered with this,    had more serious issues at hand.    ‘  look —    i don't have the time for this,    i'm kind of on a crunch,    okay?    i can't be carrying another liability right now.  ’     words sounded harsh,    like venom rolling off his tongue ..    he didn't mean for it to come across in such a way,    yet after years,    upon years of preparing people for something they weren't ready for,    it had immensely weighed him down,    and it felt as though he could no longer be bothered.     ‘  i don't mean to dismiss you,    but you do not belong here,    and it should stay that way.  ’
            
            ⁄          you can complete everything in one play through though !!    there is two separate endings in act 3,    but you can get one of them and then just reload your save state to then redo it and do the other one  :3
