I write about outsiders. People on the edge of something: adulthood, collapse, reinvention. My books tend to orbit the same gravitational pulls: power, shame, love, ambition, obsession, and the mess between who you are and who you're supposed to be.

My characters are not role models. 

They're messy, impulsive, and sometimes cruel, but always honest. 

I subvert tropes-A LOT. I love putting characters in unusual situations that create instant friction. 

Some stories take place in church basements, others in college dorms or nowhere towns, but they all start with a question I can't let go of: what happens when you break the rules and don't get punished for it? 

My work is literary and character-driven without being pretentious. I don't shy away from difficult themes, or the kinds of thoughts you're not supposed to name out loud. I believe in letting the characters get it wrong. I believe in writing toward the ache.
