Impulsiveness

Eda had seen the world freeze in front of her face. She stopped trying to get rid of the endless hands holding her back. They told her to stay on the side, but she was too oblivious to her reality right now. She could still hear the cops, the detective and even the men yelling at each other with empty attempts of preventing the catastrophic outcome. It was all in slow motion to her. Eda couldn't lose her brother, but she couldn't do anything to stop that. Her eyes wandered the situation, frenetically in looks for a miracle. Until it stopped on a fixed point near her feet. The fixed point. A gun. The gun Yiğit kicked when he was fighting one of the men. On the following events, she wasn't thinking straight. Actually, she wasn't thinking at all. She was on automatic mode, with only one thing in her head: she wouldn't lose Yiğit. The cops were too focused on the situation unfolding in front of their eyes, not noticing the obstinate girl with a killer look and a gun in her hand. They wouldn't do anything for her brother, so she would. She never held a gun before, she never knew how to work a gun before. But something in her blood made her hold it as quick as possible and put her finger on what she supposed to be the trigger. She walked in firm steps to the front corner, and before anyone could notice the girl on the side, she shot the man in the head. He wasn't looking at her, so she didn't hit the center of his forehead, but she hit the side of his head. The outcome was the same regardless: he was dead and Yiğit was alive.

Eda was standing there, seeing it all slow motion. She was finally getting back to her senses. She still had the gun pointed to the place the man once was, except now he's on the floor and there's cops moving everywhere. Including towards her. Yiğit, as quick as he could, reached to his sister, holding her, trying to bring her back from what seemed to be a trance. The detective was spitting orders right and left for the cops, and walked towards her with that mixed shock, reprehension and a bit of curiosity. As she started to get a hold of what she had just done, she slowly drops the gun on Yiğit's hand as he pushes her to his embrace. He gives the gun to the detective, and she can hear him saying "Thank you, sir". Tears were rolling down her face involuntarily. She had just killed someone. That easy, she took someone's life. An evil someone who was threatening to take her brother's life, but still she took a life.
— She's in shock.
The detective said, more of an affirmation, as he looked at her eyes and saw nothing but desperation. Eda looked for the origin of the voice, and found worried eyes looking back at her.
— Come.
He touched her arm, then simply gestured them to follow him. It was still a buzzing mess of cops walking around, sirens, radio conversations, and that was making Eda dizzy. The detective opened the door of the passenger seat of his car, and Yiğit sat her down. Instantly a paramedic, who had just arrived, took the injured boy to the ambulance to treat his wound.
— I'll be right back, okay? – Yiğit said to his sister, realizing she was still not herself – Eda?
But Eda was too absorbed in her own thoughts, or lack of it. The events that just happened simply kept replaying on her head, leaving her scarily quiet and feeling what could be the start of a panic attack. The nurse took Yiğit away, not before asking the detective one last favor: take care of his sister for a few minutes.

Serkan perceived her eyes a little lost, going back and forth around the place in desperate attempts to process the last hour.
— Are you listening to me?
She direct her eyes to the man now bending to be on the same level as her.
— Yes – she says, but comes out in a whisper.
A cop brings a cup of water to Eda, and she accepts with her shaky hands.
"10-78. More cops needed." It was heard on the PD radio from the detective's car. That instantly got his attention and she looked at him, suspiciously.
— What's happening?
— Nothing to be worried about. – he grabs his radio and walks away to talk to some cops.
She quickly gets up, but instantly regrets as her head starts spinning. She holds onto the car door and sees big strong hands holding her. Again.
— Detective.
She said, gesturing him to let her go.
— I'm fine.
— Okay.
— Where's my brother?
He points with his head to the place Yiğit was being taken care of, an ambulance that she didn't even realize when it got there. She walks to her brother, and Zeki's encounter.
— Zeki, I can't even put in words how sorry I am.
— Hey, Edacim! It's nothing I didn't agree for. I knew where this could lead me, that's why I warned you. Thank you for coming to rescue me, although I told you I'd be fine.
— You wouldn't! – she says teary eyed, hugging him.
— Maybe I'd escape! You know I'm the Batman to your Wonder Woman! – he says, trying to joke.
— Ah Zeki! – she sighes, feeling the tears coming back again – I'm so glad you're okay!
— Thanks to your hero brother right there! I guess the family is full of super-hero complexes, huh? – he laughs.
— I don't know how you're so chill, dude! But you're welcome, I'm glad we're safe now! – it was Yiğit's turn to say. A nurse was taking care of his injured leg.
— It was an adventure! – he says, excited, and realizes two pairs of eyes looking angrily at him – Not that I wanna repeat this adventure, thanks.
They laugh.
— But don't think I forgot about you plotting with my sister about the fucking Mafia! We're still gonna talk! – he says, seriously pointing at him.
— Tamam, tamam! We'll talk! – Zeki says, gesturing he surrender.
— Zeki, you have to be safe now.
— Don't worry, Edacim. I talked to some cops and they're giving me protection, and I'm sorting some things on my own too. I should invest in my safety, even when I'm not hacking into the most powerful mafia's system. – he jokes – I promise I'll stay safe and hacking! – he winks.
— Promise? Let me know if you need anything or get in trouble again!
— I promise! And if you need more, call me and I'll gladly help. Especially about these motherfuckers right there. I'm mad at them.
They talk a bit more until a cop comes to get his version of what happened, and let us know we'd need to accompany them to the police station. Zeki frowned. After the cop left, he turns to us and whispers:
— Nah, I don't trust these guys!
Eda remembered Zeki saying that cops were almost always working parallel to the Mafia, doing them favours and covering for them. She wondered if it was worth telling them the entire situation.

Now at the PD, Eda was calmer. Still oblivious to some things, but she wasn't in shock anymore. All that was left was anger. The anger that will be the fuse for her vengeance. Yiğit, who was holding her on his embrace, got up the chair to get her some water.
— There's no need, Yi.
— I'll be right back. – he simply said and walked to the other side of the room.
Eda was looking at the movement, cops walking in and out, right and left, some with papers and some with people handcuffed. She hears someone call her name and find the detective in front of her gesturing to his office.
— May you please come in?
— Detective. – Yiğit appears, holding a plastic cup of water – Thank you again.
— That's my job, kid. But I hope you both don't ever get in this kind of trouble again. – he glances at Eda, who was drinking her water.
— I assure you this won't happen again. – he turns to his sister – Right, Eda?
She simply stares at them, refusing to say anything cause she knew if she opened her mouth they would not like what she had to say.
At that moment, a cop passes by with a handcuffed man and it takes Eda a few seconds to recognize it was one of the men from The Triad. The one that was holding Yiğit at first. She feels her blood boils again, and walks to him in an act of impulsiveness. When Serkan and Yiğit realize that, they try to pull her away but she was already jumping on the man's neck cussing him out and punching him in the face.
— EDA!
