"Good Morning, Mr. President." Tubbo said as he entered the shared office, the sweater hanging slightly over his small frame.
"Hey kid, you actually showed up today? Glad to see ya." Schlatt responsded, with not much attention to the his right-hand man. A quick look around would show two empty bottles on the desk. Tubbo checked the time - 9:27am. No way can he have had two already...it's so early. An alcoholic's life, I guess.
"Yeah, yeah I did. I just wanted to say- uhm... thank you. For, you know, the sweater..." the 16-year-old began to mumble at the end, awkwardness kicking in. He had no idea how to thank someone for a gift, especially his first (and only) of the day; even more so when it was from his biological father who appeared out of nowhere.
"The swea- oh! Right, yeah, the sweater. Do you like it?" the older asked, finally turning around to face the child, to face his son. Tubbo nods; he (Schlatt) was honestly surprised to see the sweater being worn by Tubbo, and he smiled. "It looks amazing on you...I'm glad you like it. Hand embroidered and everything." The younger made attempts to call Schlatt out on lies - but there were none. Effort really went in from the drunken ram to make as good of an attempt at a present as he could. A better one than rocking up and admitting to being his dad.
The two spent some time talking about general shit, plans for Manburg. Which lead Tubbo to his big question. One of them, anyway. "Jason, Schlatt, when are you letting my family back into Manburg? I know they're the enemy side and all but...they are my family, my best friends. I j-"
"Kid, listen. They're not coming back. Okay? Don't even ask. They'll be back over my dead body. Why ask about them so much when you got me, your REAL family, and the other citizens of this fine country?" Schlatt leads the younger over to one of the large windows, overlooking the area. "Look at how well everything has come together under my power, without the interference of the child and the "leader". Things run much smoother when they aren't present. You don't need them, kid. All you need is here, within your view, right now."
Tubbo had gone to speak again before giving up, and he sighed instead. "I see. Sorry, sir."
"Hey, whaddya say we go get you a cake from that Nihachu girl? She'd make ya one." The birthday boy shrugged; and so the two of them took off through town, one beside the other, to collect the second 'gift' of the day - both of which from this goddamn man who appeared out of nowhere 15 years after he disappeared.
They soon arrived at Niki's bakery; Tubbo opened the door, entering before Schlatt. "Tubbo!!" she exclaimed when she heard the door go, turning to look at the customer(s), seeing who it was. "Happy birthday!"
"Thank you!" he said back, smiling as the two wrapped eachother in a hug. The man with the boy sighed audibly, and the two younger people ended the embrace. "We want a cake for the kid's birthday." Schlatt was simple in his statement, blunt - Nihachu nodded excitedly. "I had one prepared! I wouldn't just- not give him one, would I?" she sort of glared at the president as she turned around, taking one of the more personal cakes from a counter behind her. A simple vanilla sponge cake, with green icing and, of course, a little fondant bee. 'Tubbo' was iced out in a fancy yellow style. The birthday boy's eyed lit up in awe, and he did a little jump. "I love it!! Thank you, Niki, thank you!" Schlatt rolled his eyes, taking a swig from the bottle he had obviously brought with him.
"Cheer up, Jonathan." Niki said - you knew it was serious when she used his 'proper' name rather than "sir" or "(mr) president". Of course, she knew him as Jonathan. Around here, only Phil and Tubbo knew of the real name, Jason.
Eventually the two males left, the cake preserved in a bow-topped box. "Thank you, Jason, for the decent day so far." Tubbo said quietly, a small smile on his face. "It's no problem, kid. You deserve a good day. There's more to come, this is only the beginning." Tubbo was mildly concerned by the ending comment - surely there's not much else to do? Nevertheless he smiled once more, walking alongside his boss back to the office.
