A/N: Been in a slump for the past two months (December has not been good to me), but writing has helped me feel alive again. I hope you enjoy this chapter :) I'm not sure if it feels incomplete or perfect. There's no middle ground here, but that's okay.

I'm just glad it's finally here.

The morning suns crests over the horizon, projecting a quality of vibrancy onto the gray buildings of Itachiyama academy. The soccer field, blissfully empty of players and soccer balls, likens itself to a meadow. The well traveled paths connecting the academy's facilities burn like hot coals under a newly annointed sunrise. And in the midst of it all, black windbreaker ruffling against his body like feathers, is Sakusa Kiyoomi.

It has been two minutes since either of us spoke.

"So basically," Sakusa says, breaking the silence like a tripwire, "your dad was abusing your mom in secret, and then one day, you came home early and caught him in the act?"

"When you put it like that — "

"Please take this seriously," he says not unkindly. "Anyways. Instead of going to court and telling the judge what you saw, you switched schools and moved to Tokyo?"

"... Yes."

"Hmm," he says, sounding contemplative more than anything else. A glassy look in his eyes, Sakusa shifts his shoulders, shoving his hands into his pockets. His eyes turn towards the sky, seemingly fixed on the wispy clouds taking shape across a pale blue canvas.

It is the first morning since I returned from the hospital, and rather than sleeping in, Sakusa and I agreed to go on our usual morning walk. We were having a grand old time discussing our favorite Studio Ghibli movies, but both of us knew that there were more important matters to discuss.

So here we are. I just finished telling Sakusa why I really moved away from Miyagi.

"Look. I'm not going to pretend like this is no big deal. But I also know that this doesn't make you a bad person," Sakusa says, referring to what I said two days ago at the hospital. Beneath our feet, the sidewalk merges into a sea of smooth cement as we make our way onto Itachiyama's campus, and as the dining hall comes into view, Sakusa's pace slows.

"Do you... want to say something?" he asks gently. This surprises me a little. Sakusa has a tendency to make aggressive assumptions; this applies to both Tendou and Ushijima's relationship (still going strong) and calculus problems. But now, he seems to have slowed down — his composure is reminiscent of a rapid heartbeat falling to a steady pulse, or rushing tides being swept up in an intangible blanket of calm, waves and torrents smoothing into calm waters.

And I know I should say something, but all I can think of is Sakusa saying"Goddamn, can't you see that I've been trying to tell you that I love you, (l/n)?"

My cheeks turn crimson at the memory of his hands on my back, his eyes shining like snowflakes pressed up against glass as he reassured me, over and over, that I was not a bad person. It's a bit surreal to be walking with him to breakfast instead of forcing him to smuggle me food from the nearby 7-11 while the nurses weren't watching.

Yes, you heard me correctly. Sakusa Windex Wanda Kiyoomi — the reincarnation of Levi Ackerman, Michael Jackson, and a heavy dose of hand sanitizer all in one — stayed by my side during the entirety of my two night stay in the hospital. He brought me food, watched the final season of Attack on Titan with me, and put off studying for his huge kanji test in order to stay by my side.
