the only two things stopping casey from turning out of this parking lot and never turning back is her pounding heart and the fact that she could be putting herself and her best friend's careers in jeopardy.
she pulled the key out of the ignition and placed them in her hand, which was already feeling clammy. the butterflies in her stomach were unable to calm down, as she had no idea how this conversation would go. she had so much to say, but the words had yet to find her.
not wanting to wait any longer, she walked from the parking lot to ross's apartment and tentatively knocked on the door, shuffling from foot to foot whilst waiting for the door to open.
her breath caught in her throat, the world slipping away, when the door opened and ross appeared on the other side. his hair was disheveled and the bags under his eyes were prominent. the 5 o'clock shadow he normally sported had turned into stubble and he was dressed in the baggiest clothes he owned. this was not the ross that casey had come to know.
the ross that casey has come to love.
although casey wanted to keep as much space between them as possible, she couldn't think of anything else to do but step forward and wrap her arms around his waist; his arms banding around her shoulders, chin atop her head which rested on his chest. his rapid heartbeat was the only sound she could hear. ross hadn't been able to think straight for the past three days, but his heart and mind completely stopped when casey wrapped him in a gentle embrace.
